A286 Fasteners

When tapping A286, Jarvis has a full line of options to optimize performance at different hardness ranges.  For soft A286 (<31 Rc) we have the Jarhook.  For A286 between 32 and 35Rc we have the Jartek, and for hard A286 (>36Rc) we have the Jartuff.  These hardness specific taps are what is needed to optimize performance and thread quality.

For example, in soft A288 the Jarhook is the proven leader for tapping A286 fasteners. In extensive controlled testing, it delivered exceptional results in both tool life and tapping speed. For example, the 10-32 Jarhook achieved an average of 1,200 holes at 1,000 RPM in A286 6-point nuts—exceeding competitor performance by more than 30% at the same speed. The data confirms the Jarhook as the most reliable solution for demanding aerospace fastener production.

Davenport Taps

Jarvis manufactures high-performance taps engineered for Davenport Machines. For the main spindle, we have a variety of application specific, spiral flute taps.  For the tapping attachment, we provide the nibs taps alone or as a welded assembly of nib and shank, each design can be customized to any thread length required. With extensive experience producing both short thread length spiral-pointed nib taps and long chamfer straight-fluted designs, Jarvis ensures precise, reliable threading for high-volume aerospace applications.

Collars

Jarvis brings decades of expertise in tapping aerospace collars across a wide range of materials, from aluminum to titanium 6Al-4V. This experience has driven the development of material-specific cutting geometries, ensuring optimal tool life, chip control, and cycle efficiency for each alloy.

Locking Threads

Locking threads are critical in aerospace fasteners, where performance and reliability cannot be compromised. Unlike general-purpose taps offered by many manufacturers, Jarvis produces Jarlock taps engineered for specific materials including Inconel 718, Waspaloy, and Titanium 6Al-4V. Each tap is guaranteed to perform with Spiralock® gages, providing aerospace manufacturers with trusted solutions for mission-critical applications.

Multilead Taps

Jarvis offers both cutting and forming multilead taps designed specifically for aerospace applications such as Inconel inserts and A286 panel fasteners. With material-specific geometries, Jarvis multilead taps consistently deliver greater tool life and higher performance compared to standard designs.

Jet Engine Housing

Jarvis excels in tapping Inconel 718 components in any condition, including parts that have undergone the HIP process. Exceptional results have been achieved in commercial jet engine components, with proven improvements in tool life and consistency. Jarvis taps are also trusted in next-generation fighter jet engines, where they have delivered up to 300% increases in tool life in proprietary aerospace superalloys.

Maximize Speed

Jarvis designs taps to increase spindle speeds and reduce cycle times without sacrificing tool life. With options such as high-performance surface treatments, free-cutting and proprietary geometries, and ground male center taps for shorter throw, Jarvis ensures maximum efficiency in aerospace production.

Chip Management

Effective chip control is essential for uptime in aerospace manufacturing. Jarvis taps are engineered to direct and release chips cleanly, eliminating issues like pull-back in long-barreled fasteners and enabling efficient evacuation in counter-bored parts. For manufacturers modifying taps on the shop floor, Jarvis offers factory-ground chip solutions that increase reliability and consistency.

Blind Hole Applications

Jarvis provides the industry’s highest-performing spiral flute taps (SPFL) for blind hole threading. By leveraging a wide range of spiral flute helix angles and optimized cutting geometries, Jarvis solves even the most challenging blind hole applications in aerospace alloys.

Special Requirements

When standard tools aren’t enough, Jarvis engineers custom taps to meet unique aerospace requirements: Coolant-through designs, left-hand taps, nib taps, radius crest profiles, special thread forms, and tapered threads. Each solution is tailored to maximize tool performance and process stability in critical aerospace components.

BEYOND TAPS

How Do We Create Value?

We create value by delivering more than just cutting tools.

Our expertise in aerospace fasteners, collars, locking threads, multilead taps, and jet engine housings makes Jarvis a trusted partner for mission-critical applications. In aerospace manufacturing—where precision, reliability, and tool life are uncompromising—Jarvis adds value by engineering taps optimized not only for the alloy (A286, Inconel, Waspaloy, Titanium) but for the entire process. We account for fastener geometry, machine configuration, hole prep, and coatings to ensure maximum consistency and performance. Our proven results, from commercial jet engines to next-generation fighter platforms, reflect the depth of our technical expertise and our ability to outperform the competition in the toughest materials.

Beyond aerospace applications, Jarvis provides a level of technical engagement and service that extends far past tool delivery. We train machinists and engineers on tapping fundamentals, thread tolerancing, gauging, chip control, and coating selection. We track tool life and performance, provide detailed usage reports, and recommend process adjustments to improve throughput and consistency. Whether supporting high-volume fastener production or low-volume prototype jet engine components, our goal is the same: optimize performance through precision, partnership, and long-term technical support.
