Tapping Electrical Boxes and Components

Electrical boxes and other components are one of the more common applications in which we work.

These are generally smaller diameter taps, with the most common be 6-32 and 8-32 sizes. Other common sizes are 4-40, 10-32, ¼-28, and 5/16-24. Originally, these taps were all cut taps. We provided both 2 flute, 3 flute and solid spiral point designs to the market.

Although the gaging is all to the 2B fit, we provide different H-Limits for various requirements. Common H-limits are H3, H5, and H7 and Jarvis can provide other [half] H-limits on request.

Because the most common material is galvanized steel, this is a great application for Jarflos, or form taps. As companies have updated their stamping dies to the new pre-tapped hole diameters, we are providing more and more Jarflos to the market.

These stamped parts tapped in-die and as a secondary operation. We work closely with companies like Pronic®, and others, on the in-die option and are well established to provide a cost-effective solution for your in-die requirements.

For the secondary operation a common feature of electrical tap is the requirement for an Ettco® Notch. This is a radius notch that is ground in-line with the side of the square and Jarvis has the expertise and tooling required to grind this requirement.
